The Moulin Rouge Dancers

The Moulin Rouge Dancers are 15 ½” tall (from the tops of their headdresses to the bottom of their heels) needle sculpted, cloth, hand painted art dolls.
In this cloth doll making class you will stretch your cloth doll making skills while learning a variety of advanced needle sculpting methods including a unique needle sculpting method to create the appearance of inset eyes, how to needle sculpt an open mouth, and how to attach a cloth overlay.
You will also learn how to create and utilize a wire armature to pose your Moulin Rouge Dancer. Instruction on how to use watercolors to paint two different skin tones will be included in this class. Costuming instruction and needle felting an elaborate hairdo will be provided as time permits.
*Students should have strong basic hand sewing and machine sewing skills to take this class.

Techniques taught in Class
You will learn how to:
Needle sculpt a cloth doll head
Watercolor pencils, Prisma color pencils and artist pens for facial coloration and their uses.
Needle sculpt an open mouth
For the correct placement of facial features
How to create a swivel neck
For cloth figures including a swivel neck.
Use artist pens/pencils for facial coloration
Use tube watercolors for two different skin tones
For an art doll.
Use a facial template for the correct placement of facial features
Using a variety of unique needle sculpting techniques.
Needle sculpt eyes to create the appearance of inset eyes
Which creates the appearance of an inset eye. Also needle scuplt hands and feet!
Attach a cloth overlay onto a needle sculpted head
Over your sculpted cloth head.
Create wire armatures to hold three different action poses for you cloth art doll
Using a variety of unique and advanced needle sculpting techniques
